Thomas Widmann studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg and specialized in cardiology at the University of Geneva.
With Hesperion in 1996 and Actelion in 1997, he co-founded two highly successful European Life Science start-up companies. At Actelion, he was the company's first CEO (until 1999) and played an instrumental role not only in its IPO and secondary offering, raising a total of CHF 670 million, but also in the internationalization of the business and the formation of more than 20 subsidiaries worldwide.
From 1987 to 1996, Dr. Widmann served as Vice President and Head of International Cardiovascular Clinical Research at Hoffmann-La Roche, where he brought three drugs to international markets.
Prior to joining Hoffmann-La Roche, he had spent six years at the University of California at San Diego as an assistant professor of medicine (Cardiology).
Dr. Widmann is also a consultant to immatics in business development matters, mainly, but not limited to the Japanese market.
