Prof. Dr. Cornelius Melief is Head of the Dept. of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion at the Leiden University Medical Centre in The Netherlands. Trained as a M.D., he completed a Ph.D. on leukocyte antibodies and immune adherence with Prof. J. J. van Loghem in 1967.
His early research focused on T-cell recognition of transplantation antigens. In the past 20 years, he has focused mainly on the development of T-cell-based immunotherapy for cancer.
He has published more than 350 articles, among them several articles in “Cell” and “Nature”. He is the recipient of the Akzo Nobel Science Award and is also a member of a number of advisory councils.
